COMPANY PROFILE

OUR PHILOSOPHY

AvL Technologies is a company that produces visionary, innovative, reproducible products for emerging markets that combine elegant designs, unique style, and technical superiority for ultimate performance. We are dedicated to technical excellence and extraordinary customer service. We strive to do good work in a good working environment, where employees are treated with respect and trust to produce the best quality possible with the best possible attitudes.

OUR PAST

AvL Technologies, Inc. was formed in 1994 to design and manufacture a lightweight positioner for the ERA Technology 1.5M diamond-shaped, Ku band, carbon fiber reflector for BAF Communications. The founder of AvL is Jim Oliver who began his experience designing antenna positioners on satellites in 1967 for Lockheed Missiles and Space. His earth station antenna experience started in 1979 as Engineering Manager for the Antenna Division of Scientific-Atlanta. There he was responsible for the development of antennas from 3M to 11M, most of which comprised their initial earth station antenna product line. He later was co-founder of SatCom Technologies (now a division of Vertex/RSI) where he developed another complete product line including the first 2.4M SNG antenna system.

Jim Oliver was responsible for either personally developing or managing development of the following satellite communication products:

Lockheed Missiles and Space:

  • The first single-axis antenna positioner that was more reliable and lighter-weight to replace the customary two-axis system on satellites. Awarded first LMSC Zero Defect Award for a design project.
  • The first single axis, compact, mass inertia correction device for satellites.

Scientific-Atlanta:

  • The first "bolt together - no field aligning" stamped panel transmit antenna (S-A 3M, 4.6M, 5M, 7M)
  • The first commercial, mass produced, "bolt together - no field aligning" stamped panel transmit Ku-band earth station (SBS Program 5.5M and 7.7M)

SatCom Technologies:

  • The first high speed, 2°/sec drive system for broadcast TV antennas that allowed repositioning to any satellite within a station break (S-A and SatCom).
  • The first non-aligned, low cost 9.2M antenna using single skin panels and radial-strut backing structure.
  • The first 2° compliant, non-field aligned transmit antenna.
  • The first microprocessor-based antenna controller with automatic auto-repositioning to a schedule within 0.02° while moving at 2°/sec.
  • The first program-tracking antenna controller.
  • The first mobile satellite antenna controller.
  • The first 2.4M SNG antenna system.
  • The first 11.3M and 9.2M Ku-band earth station antennas.
  • Transportable 5.5M and 11.3M antenna systems.

AvL Technologies designs and manufactures mobile satellite antenna systems, mobile satellite positioners, and antenna positioners featuring the patented Roto-Lok® cable drive system. The Roto-Lok® is ideal for mobile satellite antenna because of its zero backlash, high stiffness, light weight, ruggedness, reliability, and cost effectiveness. It is adaptable to position almost any antenna up to 3.8M.

AvL has designed and developed SNG mobile satellite antennas for 1.2M, 1.5M, 1.8M and 2.4M apertures, as well as the unique Fly&Drive portable, motorized system and a rugged manual or motorized FlyAway package.

AvL is now recognized as the leader producer of SNG antenna systems in the United States and is fast becoming known worldwide.

AvL has developed the first motorized 1.2M Mobile VSAT antenna system designed specifically for 2-way, real-time IP, video, voice, audio, and data communication as well as other antenna positioners and controllers for specialty applications.
