Connectivity On The Go

SMALL SATELLITES: MEO, LEO and HEO Communications

Historically, most satellites have operated in Geosynchronous Orbit (GEO) from the Clarke Belt and these large, powerful satellites move synchronous to Earth’s movement. Most satellites launching today operate Medium Earth Orbit (MEO), Low Earth Orbit (LEO) and Highly Elliptical Orbit (HEO), and these satellites are considerably smaller and operate with less power.

Connectivity with tracking

MEO, LEO and HEO satellites orbit Earth quickly and communicate with spot beams, necessitating a collaborative constellation of satellites with multiple beams to cover more land mass on Earth. The moving constellations also require advanced satellite ground equipment capable of continuous tracking and handoffs between signals from multiple satellites.

Advanced Ka-band earth stations

AvL Technologies is a technology leader in innovative antennas designed to operate with satellites in multiple orbits.  AvL’s family of MEO tracking Ka-band terminals originally was developed for use with the SES O3b Classic network and newer antennas operate with the SES O3b mPOWER network. These multi-orbit terminals antennas come in various sizes including 0.85m, 1.3m, 2.2m and 2.4m flyaway terminals and 1.2m vehicle-mount terminals. Key features include:

  • Transportable Systems: Designed for mobility, the flyaway terminals pack into durable transit cases and can be assembled and on air within two hours, making them ideal for rapid deployment. Each terminal contains a pair of AvL antennas, which operate with make-before-break signal management.

  • High Throughput with Low Latency: Leverage the speed and efficiency of MEO satellites to enhance network capabilities significantly.

  • Versatility: While designed for MEO operations, AvL’s antennas also support LEO, HEO and GEO communications and operate in multiple bands with quick change RF systems.

Robust Multi-Orbit SATCOM

AvL terminals provide a rugged and robust solution for accessing communicating with MEO, LEO, HEO and GEO satellites and in multiple bands makes them a smart investment for next-generation communication networks.
